So What’s Your Story?
When I heard of Maya Angelou’s passing the other day, the first thing that came to mind was a story I read the other day. In the article, the author included this quote: “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” -Maya Angelou.
I don’t know the author personally, but I’ve admired his gift of leading worship at the church we have attended the last couple of years. In just a small amount of time, I’ve picked up on the fact that he has a strong faith, amazing voice, and a humble heart. Beyond that – no clue.
As I read about his disturbing childhood experience, I was reminded that no one’s life is perfect – even when it may look that way on the outside. It was pretty encouraging to see what God can do through someone who has kept something so painful – so quiet – for years. I admire him for sharing, especially in a world where people are quick to judge and ridicule others. Just look at the ridiculous comments that are posted when a news station tells a story on their website. In this day, who WANTS to be an ‘open book’ when you’re practically stoned to death because you misspelled something!
Matt’s willingness to tell his story took courage…..and gives hope to many others who have some pretty painful memories that have remained tucked away – deep within the soul. I think it’s pretty safe to say that we all have some kind of story. What are you doing with yours?
