The Best Gift
It’s so hard to believe that Christmas is less than three weeks away. I don’t know about you, but I can get pretty uptight when it comes to deciding on a gift for certain people – for any occasion. I sometimes get so caught up in worrying that someone won’t like what I’m giving them that I take the easy way out and buy a gift card so that they can choose. I guess there’s nothing wrong with that, but – there is something special about receiving a gift that someone took the time to look for or maybe saw in a store and instantly thought of you.
When I was out shopping yesterday, I thought about Jesus. I mean – he is the greatest gift of all. Then I thought about God and what if he had decided that he wasn’t going to send Jesus after all – because he knew many of us wouldn’t accept him or love him the way that we should. Can you imagine giving such a gift – knowing that many would either pretend to love it – or leave it there untouched where it was placed because they didn’t feel it was something they needed.
There’s a lot that I don’t know, but there’s one thing I do – God loves you so deeply that he sent his one and only son as a gift for you. We all need that gift. I pray you have received it.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. – Isaiah 9:6
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. John 3:16-17
