The Word

Many years ago, two of our three sons were in a heated argument. Sometimes we would just let them work it out without intervening, but this time we heard language that we didn’t allow, so we brought them into a room where they were told to sit. Because we weren’t sure which one said ‘the word’, we stood there looking at them –  asking for one of them to confess.

Neither one budged.

My husband told them they  would have to sit all day if necessary until someone confessed.  He informed them that all he wanted to hear was the truth. One son finally spoke up and asked his dad, “Exactly what is the punishment?”

Alas, a confession in the form of  a question.

The sermon this morning came from the first chapter in Romans. Part of the message was to remind us that there will be consequences when we make the decision to continue to live life how we see fit when we know it’s wrong – when we know we are living in sin.  Although we often hear about how loving God is, we neglect to mention that some will have to face his wrath, and it’s up to us if we’re going to experience that or His glory.

Unlike everything else in this world, His rules don’t change with time and they aren’t negotiable. He doesn’t expect perfection, but wants the truth to be told, the effort to change, and a willing spirit to submit to Him.

Let’s face it,  no one wants to get caught in sin, and many try their best to keep from breaking His commandments. However, we all sin.

So, what do you choose? Eternal life with Him, or eternal life in hell? It’s up to you.

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

And let’s not forget…

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Truth. Confession. Forgiveness  ~ and grace.

Isn’t eternal life with Him worth the effort?
